What is Canvas?

The Francis Howell School District has adopted Canvas as the primary learning management system for teachers and students. Each course has a Canvas Course where students will access course content created by their teachers. Students access their Canvas courses through the FHSD Student Canvas Portal.

Why Canvas?

During FHSD Strategic Planning, the need for a district-wide learning system (LMS) was identified. Both internal and external stakeholders recognized that students, teachers and parents would benefit from using one, centralized-location for accessing learning content. Canvas allows teachers to create lessons, organize and deliver content, and check for student understanding in an environment that students can access from any time, any place on any device.

Guardian Observer Accounts

Guardians can create a Parent Observer account in order to observe their student's content within Canvas. As Canvas Observers, guardians can see assignment due dates, announcements, and other course content. Observers can view course content, but cannot participate in the course.

Course Content

This course is provided to help Guardian Observers to support their student(s) learning within Canvas. Below is an introduction video to help you to understand how Canvas can help you to better understand the Canvas LMS
